Bio
From the time Matt VanFossen was a young boy, those around him knew he was
destined to perform. Soon, Matt realized what others already knew…he was
born to sing and entertain crowds.

Matt often credits his great grandmother for his love of country music.
While growing up Matt could be found sitting on the porch with her while
she listened to the Grand Old Opry. It was during this time that Matt
began to understand the power behind lyrics and melody; the power that
music has to touch people’s lives in a way that nothing else can. Soon
Matt began singing and performing for anyone who would listen, and he
hasn’t stopped since.

As an adult, Matt entered various singing competitions including Colgate
Country Showdown, Wheeling Island Idol, and Nashville Star, where he was a
regional finalist. He also released an independent single called “Are You
Ever Gonna Love Me” to WTCR in Ashland, KY, where it spent 7 weeks at #1
on the Cashbox Independent Country Singles Charts. In 2009, with the
support of his friends and family, Matt recorded his debut album “Any Road
Will Get You There”. Matt took the Ohio Valley by storm when he released
the first single off the Cd called “Time Ain’t What It Used To Be”. The
song quickly became a hit, eventually taking the #76 spot on the top 98
countdown of 2010 on WOVK 98.7FM. Since the release of “Time”, things for
Matt have been on the fast track. As any one of the hundreds of VanFans
fan club members will tell you, he just keeps getting better.

Tragedy struck in early 2010, when Matt lost his mother and #1 VanFan,
Dot, suddenly to a stroke. This was by far the biggest trial Matt would
have to face, but with the support of his family, friends, and fans, Matt
decided to continue the dream that he and his mother had begun building.
In March 2011, Matt hosted the 1st Annual Dot Fest to raise money for the
National Stroke Association in honor of his mother. The event included
performances from several Ohio Valley artists and turned out to be a huge
success!

Matt quickly learned that we have to live every day to the fullest, and he
is ready to take the country music community on a ride they won’t soon
forget. Matt and his band are busy headlining shows throughout the Ohio
Valley, including stops in Martins Ferry, Wheeling, Pittsburgh, and has
been honored to perform at Jamboree In The Hills for the past 2 years.
During this time, Matt has opened for national recording artists,
including Trailer Choir and fellow Ohio Valley native Joe Zelek. Matt is
also in the studio working on his follow-up Cd “I Didn’t Come Here To
Lose”.

Whether it’s a full band concert or a small acoustic show, an audience of
80 or 80,000, fans and peers alike are always impressed with Matt’s vocal
ability and the way he connects with his audience. His performances are
about more than just his vocals. They are full of energy, passion, and a
genuine love for his music and his fans.

“Remember this guy’s name because you’ll be hearing a lot more of it in
the future.” – 98.7 WOVK Station Manager Jim Elliot
