About Mark Gorby:

There’s a lot of people out there who believe Mark Gorby sings even better than he plays guitar. That’s saying something considering the Wheeling native has been honored for his considerable guitar talents. There’s something completely absorbing about watching Gorby put on his solo acoustic show. He takes great songs – from the Foo Fighters to gems by lesser-heard blues greats like Son Seals – and makes them even better. Gorby is a true diamond in the rough because his fine, fluid guitar playing provides only the backdrop for his soulful singing. Fans of Gorby know him from all the way back to his full-on rock guitar sound with alternative underground band Different Engine, arguably one of the finest groups to ever come out of the Ohio Valley. Gorby’s excellent electric guitar work also helped him win regional honors in Guitar Center ’s blues competition last year. His new muse is acoustic playing, however, and that medium is perfect to display his immense talents. Taking a song like the Foo Fighters’ “Hero,” Gorby nails the song’s intensity and fire, but in a softer, more soulful way. Gorby continues to enjoy taking an obscure blues song and putting his stamp on it.

“If a song has a real good lyric, it will speak to just about anybody,” he said. “I like to choose those songs that even if you haven’t heard them before, you stop to listen.” If you’re out on the town and looking to get in out of the elements, look him up, find out where he’s playing, and get yourself there. Without a doubt, Gorby will put a smile on your face. -Matt Heusel "the Trainjumpers"
